Meet the Creatures of the
Darkworld
The Darkworld is populated with creatures previously found only in
fantasy worlds. However, the Darkworld is just like our world, same
cities, same issues, same humans. But there are other creatures who
live side by side with the humans in this world and there other realms
accessible via portals. Not every creature of the Darkworld has the
ability to access the portals and travel between realms. Also, the
immortals in this world are not true immortals who never die. Each type
of immortal has vulnerabilities which could lead to death under the
right circumstances. Immortals can also choose to "retire" to the
Afterlife. The Afterworld provides them with an entirely different kind
of life than what they lived in the Darkworld. They leave behind their
corporeal bodies in the Darkworld upon retirement to the realm of the
Afterworld. Below is a
brief listing of some of the creatures you will meet in the Darkworld
Vampires
The vampires of the Darkworld are not the undead. They're a race called
Acerbian. They are living, breathing, warm-blooded beings who eat food
just like the rest of us and don't shapeshift into bats. However, they
do require additional sustenance through the drinking of blood. They
have fangs that retract until they are sexually aroused or need to
feed. Acerbians don't contract sexually transmitted diseases like
humans do, but they can easily impregnate humans if they don't use
protection. They are basically allergic to the sun. The older a vampire
is, the more sunlight they can withstand, but basically it just gives
them a severe sunburn. Vampires bond with their bloodmates through the
exchange of blood during intercourse. Bonded bloodmates cannot drink
from anyone else. Usually, if a bonded bloodmate dies, the vampire
starves to death. It is a painful, torturous death. Both Alexa Harte
and Olivier Wilde of Never Been Bit lost a bloodmate. For some unknown
reason, neither died. Eventually, they discover they are bloodmates
which is the reason they both survived the death of a mate.
Dragons
There are a few different kinds of dragons in the Darkworld. Most of
the dragons in the Tales books are black. However, there are also green
and red dragons. Black dragons usually have dark hair, but they can
sometimes have other eye colors besides black, grey, and brown. The
Antaeus family are black dragons but they all have distinctive amber
eyes. The reason for this, as told in Fire Season, is because their
mother was a red dragon. The red dragon geneology encompasses dragons
in shades of orange, bronze, and gold as well. Their hair can be any
shade but their eyes are almost always hazel or amber. Green dragons
can also have hair of any color and their eyes are usually green but
occasionally can be blue.
Dragons are shifters who can change their
form into their dragon form at will. This leaves them vulnerable and
naked when they shift back to human form. They have fangs that can
appear, like a vampire, when they are aroused. Dragons can mate while
shifted and in dragon form. They can also have sex while shifted. A
dragon couple will most likely become pregnant if they have sex while
in dragon form, but dragons can only impregnate or become pregnant
after they have mated. Dragons have sexual stamina unrivalled by any
other being. Their metabolism gives them the ability to recover from
sexual activity very quickly. Dragons bear a mark on their body called
a clan mark. It usually looks like a tribal tattoo. The mark is some
form of dragon shape. When a dragon releases their fire into the body
of their intended mate, usually during intercourse, the mate (if not
also a dragon) becomes as impervious to heat and fire as the dragon.
The dragon's clan mark morphs into two entwined dragons and an
identical mark appears on the mate in the same place on their body.

The Magia
The Magia are the magical community in
the Darkworld. They are the witches and warlocks who rise through the
levels to become Mages and Sorceresses. Magic in the Darkworld can be
inherited along matriarchal or patriarchal lines. It is conferred upon
another before the Sorceress or Mage dies. Magical power can be handed
down to another Magia, but does not have to be handed to a blood
relative. A Mage can pass his powers to any male of the Magia and
likewise, a Sorceress may pass her power to any female. Each Mage and
Sorceress has spell books that they have either compiled, inherited, or
been given by another Magia. Some of the books are very old and contain
what is called 'old magic'. Old magic are spells that required the use
of tools, such as a cauldron, to execute the magic. The modern day
Magia rarely use old magic. There are also rules regarding the
ascendency of wizards to the Mage level. These rules have to do with
their destined mates. Wizards who do not become bonded to their
destined mates by the time they ascend to Mage lose that mate and are
given a new destiny. Often, that destiny does not include a mate.
Consequently, ascendency become a very important time for a wizard.
They are vulnerable to attack from demons at that time as well.
